Mighty Tavern to close next week

Say farewell to Fair Oak’s Mighty Tavern, which will close on Saturday, December 19.

Its owners Dennis and Joan Reid Lapuyade made the announcement today via public letter.

Mighty Tavern was born from the belief that our Fair Oaks neighbors needed a cozy spot to gather over good, seasonal food and craft drinks. We still believe this. But it’s time for Joan to focus her energy on other dreams in the Bay Area, and Dennis to enjoy a new life in Switzerland. Joan is selling/leasing the Mighty Tavern business.

They’ll host a special farewell prix fixe lunch called “A Mighty Lunch” on Friday, December 18. Reservations required.

Mighty Tavern opened in 2013, offering the closest thing Fair Oaks has to a new American fine dining restaurant with a farm-to-fork ethos. The Sacramento Bee’s Carla Meyer recently issued it a mixed two-and-a-half starred review, praising its burger and bar but calling the rest “spotty.” She also pointed out that the restaurant has been in flux recently, with the departure of chef Jason Azevedo for the Paragary Restaurant Group and, soon after, Christian Flood for Hawks Provisions and Public House.
