Carmichael Dave to return to KHTK radio next week

Last year was pretty jacked up for local radio host and Kings fan “Carmichael” Dave Weiglein.

Sacramento and the Maloofs forged a handshake arena deal in February 2012—but then it quickly crumbled.

Dave got his own show on KHTK, then CBS Radio abruptly fired him last May.

In the radio biz, they call these turn of events the same thing everyone else calls them: shitty.

Then along came 2013: The Maloofs sold the Kings to Sacto-loving owners, the city passed a new arena pact. And now Carmichael Dave will return to his longtime home at CBS Radio KHTK 1140 AM “The Fan” next week.

Industry website All Access Music Group reported today that Dave will rejoin CBS Radio, along with KSFM 102.5 FM’s Keith “Boondock” Brooks for 1140’s new 5:30-9 a.m. morning show.

Former KHTK program director and longstanding radio personality Don Geronimo will jump to later in the day, noon-3 p.m.

I wrote a cover story on Dave last year and spent some time with the guy, less than a month after KHTK canned him and weeks after the Kings arena deal collapse. Never would’ve guessed this was in store for him in 2013.

While KHTK has yet to announce these rumored changes, a source confirmed them to SN&R.

Dave would not comment on his reported return to KHTK, and the station’s program director, Byron Kennedy, was unavailable for comment.
